PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the life of a roller and a disk in a toroidal continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: The transmission uses heat resistant bearing steel as the material of an input disk 5, an output disk 6b and a roller 7. The outer circumferential surface of at least the roller 7 is subjected to shot peening, and the surface residual compression stress is made to be 0.6 to 1.2 GPa, and the hardness to be HRC63-66.
