PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect an author's right by enabling playback and copy of pieces of content data of a data recording medium including pieces of the content data according to its use so that the pieces of content data fit to a sale use and rental use. SOLUTION: The recording medium is provided with a recording area 2 on the inner circumferential side and an recording area 3 on the outer circumferential side in which a plurality of pieces of the contents data are recorded, and a lead-in area 4 in a position that is read before the recording areas 2, 3 are read. Identification information which indicates whether the recording medium is for the rental use is recorded in one of the recording areas and the lead-in area.
