Prepn. of 1:1-dicyclohexyl-2-(2'-piperidyl)-ethane (I) comprises the catalytic hydrogenation of a cpd. of formula (II): (where R is phenyl, R' = phenyl or cyclohexyl). (I) is used in cardiac therapy. When R' = cyclohexyl, the hydrogenation is effected in the presence of PtO2, Raney-Ni or Rh on Al2O3 at 50-150 atoms. H2 press/80-150 degrees C, When R=R'=phenyl the H2 pressure is 80-150 atmos and the temp is 50-120 degrees C.
