PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a ruthenium complex compound in which a heterogeneous atom-containing carbene compound having a six-membered ring structure is bound to ruthenium and which is useful as an olefin compound metathesis reaction catalyst or a hydrogenation reaction catalyst, and to provide a method for producing the ruthenium complex compound. SOLUTION: The ruthenium complex compound in which the heterogeneous atom-containing carbene compound having the six-membered ring structure is bound to ruthenium is obtained, and the method for producing the ruthenium complex compound is characterized by reacting the heterogeneous atom- containing carbene compound having the six-membered ring structure with a ruthenium complex compound having one or more neutral ligands to exchange the ligands.
