An orally administrable composition comprises a t least one alpha-amylase inhibitor together with at least one of insulin, fructoligosaccharides and optionally a fat inhibitor. Preferably the alpha-amylase inhibitor is a plant protein extracted from Phaseolus vulgaris having a molecular weight in the range of 42,000 to 49,000 with approximately 8% of its molecular weight consisting of carbohydrates. The composition can be used in a medicament for treating obesity, preventing weight gain or causing weight loss. |
