The display shows rotary speed using a closed strip unit (8) with lights (10) along its circumference. The lights are controlled to flash around, at a speed proportional to the instantaneous speed of machine rotation. In addition or alternatively, a light strip shows execution of the control program. A light illuminates, then more and more come on until all are lit, as the program stages or their duration elapse.
