<p>The present invention enables one to connect waveguide to optical fiber without an expensive alignment instrument. The method comprises the steps of: after making waveguide device and optical fiber block on a single substrate, dicing process and lapping/polishing process of contact surface; and then again connecting those waveguide device and optical fiber block to each other. Also, one can save its manufacturing process time and cost using the method comprising the steps of: forming the first groove via etching specific area of substrate surface where the optical fibers are supposed to be arranged; forming waveguide on the substrate to locate the waveguide aligned with the corresponding first groove in a straight line; shaping the second groove via etching the boundary surface between the first groove and waveguide to a specified depth; and aligning optical fiber to the first groove and attaching the optical fiber to the waveguide.</p> |
