The present invention is a radiator element (6) composed of a metal foam for use within a radiant burner (1). The radiator element (6) is comprised ofa homogenous network (11) about a plmality of inter-connected cells (12) thereby fonning a gas-permeable metal foam. The homogeneous network (12) may be composed of a metal or metal alloy capable of withstanding combustion temperatures typical of fuel-air reactions and resisting damage produced by flashback. Inter-connected cells (11) include irregular- shaped voids, circular-shaped voids, and combinations thereof.
