Adjustable steering column

The guide rod for swinging the column up and down and a telescopic arrangement for the column are fixed into position by two locks manoeuvred by a device that can only operate one lock at a time. The steering column comprises a guide rod (10) which can be swung up and down about a first axle and is connected to the steering wheel. A first catch (11) is fixed to the guide rod and cooperates with a first lock (12) for fixing the rod into position at the chosen angle. The sleeve (14) supporting the first axle has a telescopic arrangement (15) protruding from it, this arrangement being connected to a wheel control device. A second lock (16) is used to fix the telescopic arrangement into position. The two locks are manoeuvred using a device (17), which when moved in a principle direction will initially operate only one of the two locks, after which further movement in this direction will continue to operate only the initially operated lock.
