The system provides notification of data from a server to a terminal. The server searches for data of the relevant type in at least one database, and then filters this data, so as to select data which is applicable to the location of the terminal. At specific transmission times and automatically, the server acquires an indication of the location of the terminal. The terminal may be used to define an extended geographical area in order to enable correct identification of the data which is relevant to the terminal, prior to the notification process.
