Cephem compounds of the general formula (I) or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts: (I) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently hydrogen, nitro, or cyano; R3 is optionally carboxylated C1-6 alkyl; R4 is hydrogen or amino; and X is S- or SO-, with the proviso that the cases wherein both of R 1 and R2 are simultaneously hydrogen are excepted.
