PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure of a barrier rib of a plasma display panel capable of preventing generation of display defect caused by chipping of the barrier rib and a manufacturing method of a plasma display panel capable of forming a desired difference in height for the barrier ribs. SOLUTION: When forming barrier ribs for a plasma display panel for forming discharge cells between a front panel and a back panel, a barrier rib 1 is formed to have a projecting part extending to the outside of the discharge cell at least at a side of the discharge cell (pixel 2) and, by adjusting the length of the projecting part and composition rate of the material of the barrier rib, the projecting part is formed to be taller than the peripheral of the discharging cell by the effect of burning shrinkage. By contacting the barrier rib (the barrier rib 1a of outside the pixel) and the front panel, the pixel defect can be prevented from occurring even if the barrier rib 1 is suffered from chipping.
