METHOD FOR PRODUCING CUMENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for economically producing cumene having excellent merits that a catalyst in the initial state can be treated to be brought to a usable state with preventing degradation of the catalyst caused by heat and any process for newly cleaning the catalyst is not required in using the catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing cumene is to hydrocrack cumyl alcohol in the presence of a copper-based catalyst and the copper-based catalyst is obtained by reducing in a liquid cumene. The method is applied as a process after oxidizing cumene to obtain cumene hydroperoxide and reacting cumene hydroperoxide with propylene in a liquid phase in the presence of a solid catalyst to obtain propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol.
