PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive image forming apparatus using a multiple transfer system in which ozone or nitrogen oxide is not produced, and toner scattering or transfer irregularity at the pitch of electrodes in the case of transferring a toner image to a body to be transferred are prevented and which has high image quality. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is equipped with a recording medium carrying body which carries a recording medium and circularly moves in a specified circularly moving direction or an intermediate transfer body to which the toner image is directly transferred and which circularly moves in the specified circularly moving direction. Then, the recording medium carrying body or the intermediate transfer body is the one where a plurality of electrodes separated from each other are formed in the circularly moving direction and is equipped with a voltage applying means for applying transfer voltage to the electrode of the recording medium carrying body or the intermediate transfer body, and adjusted so that the surface potential on the photoreceptor side of the recording medium carrying body or the intermediate transfer body reaches transfer starting potential before the electrode passes through a nip part by the transfer voltage applied to the electrode. |
