PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a coating film having satisfactory clearance coating properties, and to obtain a coated article having satisfactory clearance coating properties. SOLUTION: In electrodeposition coating with a cationic electrodeposition coating material, the maximum value (I) of current density appears within 5 sec from the start of energizing, and the time in which the current density (0.51), i.e., 1/2 of the maximum value (I) of current density appers is <=5 sec.
