PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method enabling manufacture of an optical polymeric sheet having gas/water-vapor barrier properties of a high degree, inexpensively and with excellent productivity, and a base for a liquid crystal display element and a liquid crystal display device which use the optical polymeric sheet thus obtained. SOLUTION: In the present manufacturing method of the polymeric sheet, a protective layer and a gas/water-vapor barrier layer, or the gas/water-vapor barrier layer alone, is formed on a base (b) for release having a thickness of 0.1 mm or below and the outer surface of the barrier layer is treated with a corona or plasma discharge.
