PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such an apparatus and method for water-blowing into an oven top space as is contrived to remove the carbon depositing on the tip of a water-blowing nozzle and consequently to perform stably for a long period of time the function for water-spraying into the oven top space during a dry distillation. SOLUTION: The apparatus for water-blowing into the oven top space in order to inhibit the carbon deposit occurring accompanying with the dry distillation of coal in a coke oven, is characterized in that the jetting of an oxygen- containing gas 105 toward the tip of a water-blowing nozzle 13 for water- blowing into the above oven top space enables to inhibit an amount of the carbon to deposit on the brick surface inside the coke oven as well as to burn and remove the carbon C deposited on the tip of the water-blowing nozzle.
