PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble skinpass rolling fluid which imparts excellent direct coating properties to a steel plate independently of the amount of the remaining skinpass rolling fluid on the steel plate after skinpass rolling. SOLUTION: The skinpass rolling fluid for steel plates comprises a water-soluble rust preventive and water as the major components and, in addition, 0.01-1 mass%, based on the total amount of the fluid, one kind or a mixture of more than one kind of a polyoxyethylene-1,5-sorbitan fatty acid monoester having three polyoxyethylene chains in the molecule and, in addition, a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group R1 or R2 in the ester bonding portion (formula 1), a polyoxyethylene-1,4-sorbitan fatty acid monoester (formula 2), and a polyoxyethylene sorbitol fatty acid ester having six polyoxyethylene chains in the molecule and at least three polyoxyethylene chains, each bonded to a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group R3 through an ester bond (formula 3). |
