PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high contrast and high sensitivity silver halide photographic sensitive material. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic sensitive material having at least one silver halide emulsion layer on a support contains at least one organic gold compound is characterized in that it has a characteristic curve whose gamma in the optical density range of 0.3-3.0 is >=5.0 as a characteristic curve shown on rectangular coordinate axes with equal unit lengths of logarithmic light exposure (x-axis) and optical density (y-axis).
