PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for thermally stabilizing a polycarbonate resin or a polyester resin. SOLUTION: This method for thermally stabilizing a polycarbonate resin or a polyester resin is characterized by adding a 1:0.1 to 1:10 mixture of tannin: a phosphate compound in an amount of 20 to 1,000 ppm based on the polycarbonate resin or polyester resin. Thereby, the mol.wt. decrease of the polycarbonate resin or the polyester resin, especially polyethylene terephthalate resin, on thermal melting can be prevented, and the thermal stabilization of the polycarbonate resin or the polyester resin can be achieved.
