PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, preventing excessive addition of a reducer to a NOX absorbent when performing the reduction of NOX and the temperature raising of the NOX absorbent at the same time. SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device comprises the NOX absorbent 20, temperature raising means 28 for increasing the temperature of the NOX absorbent 20 with the addition of the reducer, and a NOX releasing means 28 for releasing NOX absorbed by the NOX absorbent 20 with the addition of the reducer. When the temperature raising of the NOX absorbent 20 and the release of the NOX are preformed at the same time and the total amount of the reducer added by the temperature raising means 28 and the NOX releasing means 28 is a preset amount or more in a predetermined period, a timing for the reducer to be added by at least one of the temperature raising means 28 and the NOX releasing means 28 is changed or the amount of the reducer to be added by at least one of them is reduced. |
