PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer in which the residual capacity of a battery can be managed regardless of the discharging characteristics of the battery and print processing can be carried out efficiently. SOLUTION: The thermal printer performing printing by supplying power to a plurality of heating elements in a head from a drive power supply of battery comprises means for measuring the output voltage of the battery, means for calculating current consumption at the time of printing one line based on print data, and means for calculating residual capacity of the battery after printing based on the battery capacity before printing and a current consumption required for printing calculated by the current consumption calculating means wherein print processing is controlled based on the residual capacity of the battery thus calculated.
