PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection method of a heat exchanging process capable of detecting a leak of process fluid quickly and easily, in the heat exchanging process between a heat medium and the process fluid. SOLUTION: In this heat exchanging process for exchanging heat between the heat medium and the process fluid, a gas component generated by contact between the heat medium and the leaked process fluid is detected by a gas detector 5 in a gas phase part 7 in a heat medium tank 4. For example, the heat medium is a fused salt including sodium nitrite, and the process fluid includes one or more kinds of compounds selected from a group comprising chlorine, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan, and the generated gas component is a nitrogen oxide or a combustible gas.
