PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for communication between an indoor unit and an outdoor unit of an air conditioner are provided to transmit operation control signal through a connecting tube by converting the operation control signal into vibration signal. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes an indoor unit(I) inputting operation control signal to flow refrigerant and controlling to drive according to the signal; an outdoor unit(T) controlling refrigerant to flow and be introduced to the indoor unit according to the operation control signal; oscillators(60a,60b) converting the operation control signal into vibration signal so that the indoor unit and the outdoor unit recognize; vibration sensors(50a,50b) converting the vibration signal into electric operation control signal that the indoor unit and the outdoor unit recognize; and a connecting tube(80) bidirectionally transmitting the vibration signal between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit.
