PURPOSE: A method of producing fiber, and methods for producing electron-emitting device, electron source and image display device each using the fiber are provided to form the fiber simply and easily and arrange fibrous carbon substances in an array regularly at appropriate intervals. CONSTITUTION: A method of producing a fiber comprises a step of introducing catalytic particles(4) originally formed in a particle-forming chamber into an arraying chamber together with a carrier gas, to cause the catalytic particles to become arranged on a substrate(1) disposed in the arraying chamber and a step of growing fibers(5), each including carbon as a major component, based on the catalytic particles arranged on the substrate. The fibers grow by heating the catalytic particles arranged on the substrate in an atmosphere containing carbon.
