PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjustment method for a monitor television receiver that can adjust the focus of the monitor television receiver by means of a machine with accuracy equal to or more than that of focus adjustment of the monitor television receiver performed by a skillful operator. SOLUTION: The focus adjustment device applies differentiation processing to an image resulting from a test pattern displayed on a monitor television CRT whose focus is to be adjusted and captured by an imaging means 2, acquires a maximum value among differentiated values of respective pixels configuring a designated one-line in advance, selects a pixel in which the maximum value exists as a target pixel, compares a newest first derivation value of the target pixel with a first differentiated value of the target pixel just preceding to the newest first differentiated value of the target pixel of the target pixel every time a focus adjustment volume V of the monitor television CRT is unidirectionally moved by a prescribed amount and terminates the focus adjustment of the monitor television receiver when the newest first differentiated value in an address of the target pixel gets smaller than the first differentiated value of the target pixel just preceding to the newest first differentiated value.
