PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve effect of updating of control mode information corresponding to a large signal level in distortion compensating equipment wherein a distortion generating means 2 for distortion compensation generates distortion in a signal to be amplified by an amplifier 3, a signal level detecting means 5 detects the signal level, and distortion generation control means 7, 8 for distortion compensation control a distortion generating means for distortion compensation, in a control mode corresponding to the detected signal level, on the basis of control mode information stored in control mode information storing means 7, 8. SOLUTION: A distortion detecting means 11 detects distortion contained in a signal outputted from an amplifier. Control mode information updating means 12, 13 update control mode information in such a manner that detected distortion becomes small, by using a mode which updates control mode information corresponding to a signal level exceeding a first threshold, in such a manner that distortion contained in a signal outputted from the amplifier becomes small when a signal having a signal level exceeding a second threshold level is amplified by the amplifier.
