PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thinned switch device with functions of illuminating and displaying display patterns such as characters and figures indicating each function on the front face of a switching member. SOLUTION: With the switch device 1 provided with a switching member 5 with display patterns 5a formed on its front face, a circuit board 11 put at the rear of the switching member 5, and an illuminating element 7 located at the rear of the switching member 5 arranged at the front face of the circuit board 11 and illuminating display patterns 5a of the switching member 5 from the rear, the illuminating element 7 is composed of an organic EL element 7a with a luminous region 7s of the size covering the display patterns 5a of the switching member 5.
