Hair treatment gels containing itaconic acid monoester/acrylate copolymer

The aqueous hair treatment gel contains a combination of at least one itaconic acid monoester/acrylate copolymer and at least one non-ionic, anionic, zwitterionic or amphoteric hair-fixing polymer. The itaconic acid monoester has a formula CH2=C(COOR1)CH2COOR2, wherein one of R1 and R2 represents hydrogen and the other represents -(CH2CH2O)x-R3, x is a number between 1 to 100 and R3 is an alkyl group having 8 to 30 carbon atoms. The aqueous hair treatment gel has a pH of greater than 7 and a viscosity of greater than 500 mPa.s, as measured at 25° C.
