PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector that is excellent in transmission efficiency of optical signals and superior in workability for manufacturing. SOLUTION: In this optical connector 1, a plug section 3 holding an optical fiber 15 with the end face receded inside from the tip end, and a receiving section 2 having a built-in light-emitting/receiving element (element) 12 for transferring optical signals with the optical fiber 15, are connected to each other in a fashion that the end face of the optical fiber 15 is separated from the element 12. Inside the receiving section 2, a transparent resin 8 is charged so as to cover the element 12. A part of the transparent resin 8 at the tip end of the element 12 is extended to the end face of the optical fiber 15 in the plug section 3 connected to the receiving section 2, and is designed to be a smooth face 9 opposing the end face of the optical fiber 15.
