PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel olefin polymerization catalyst excellent in olefin polymerization activity and a method for polymerizing which produces a polymer having a low molecular weight with high polymerization activity in the polymerization using a transition metal compound. SOLUTION: An olefin is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising the compound represented by the formula [wherein M is a transition metal atom of groups 4-5 in the periodic table; m is 1-4; R<1> is H, a 1-5C linear hydrocarbon group, a bicyclic hydrocarbon group carrying at least one or more carbons or a 3-5 membered alicyclic hydrocarbon group; R<2> -R<6> are each hydrogen, a halogen, a hydrocarbon group or the like; X is hydrogen, a halogen atom or the like and n is a number satisfying the number of valence of M] and at least one compound (B) selected from an organometallic compound (B-1), an organic aluminumoxy compound (B-2) and an ionized ionic compound (B-3).
