PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inhibitor of multiplication of a cancer cell, having a pharmacological activity for effectively inhibiting the multiplication of each kind of the cancer cell, safe to the human body and effective for the therapy of cancer. SOLUTION: This inhibitor of the multiplication of the cancer cell contains a tropolone compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R<1> and R<2> are each independently a hydrogen atom or an isopropyl group; with the proviso that one of the R<1> and the R<2> is the hydrogen atom), or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient.
