Thin chip microspray system for coupling with high resolution electrospray mass spectrometers

An electrospray system for the coupling of a microscale fluid handling device to a high resolution mass spectrometer comprises one or more micro-structures 3 formed in a polymer substrate 1 for handling liquid samples in said substrate. The micro-structure(s) 3 is/are connected to a sample introduction means 5, closed by a sealing layer 4, and terminate in at least one outlet 2, which has a diameter smaller than 300 micrometers and which is made of walls exhibiting at least one angle smaller than 90 degrees in order to destabilise the liquid/air interface. Electrical means 6 generate the spray of the sample solution into the mass spectrometer.
