PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management method capable of managing attached documents to a series of bundles of electronic mail exchanged in a reply, a transfer or the like, and efficiently referring to the attached documents. SOLUTION: A program (Pro) 1120 decides whether electronic mail data transmitted/received through an electronic mail server is business mail or not, and registers a mail body, attribute information and connection information between the mail in an area 1210 as business history information when the electronic mail data are the business mail. A Pro 1130 extracts the attached document of the mail, a Pro 1140 stores the attached document in the area 1210, and stores a volume and a file name of the attached document, and a transmitter name and a transmission date of the mail in the area 1210 as attached document management information together with a pointer to the storage area of the attached document. When receiving a retrieval reference command from a client, a Pro 1170 displays an attached document list in the case of an attached document list reference command, and a Pro 1160 displays a business history list, an electronic mail list or the like according to contents of the command in the case of the other command.
