PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article storage device 11 for holding a movable plate 21 that is subjected to retreat movement from the inside of a column 12 by facilitating position adjustment of the movable plate 21 and flexibly coping with the position of the movable plate 21 with respect to the length of articles to be stored within the column 12. SOLUTION: The movable plate 21 is disposed at one side of the column 12, facing the other side of a side plate of the column 12, and a supporting mechanism 22 supports the movable plate 21 in an advanceable and retreatable way toward the one side within the column 12. A torsion coil spring 28 energizes the movable plate 21 to the one side or the other side of the column 12 with an energization neutral position P0 as a boundary. The movable plate 21 energized to the one side of the column 12 with the torsion coil spring 28 is brought into contact with merchandise to control the width of the article. The movable plate 21 energized to the other side of the column 12 with the torsion coil sprint 28 is held while undergoing retreat movement from the inside of the column 12.
