The electrically controlled valve actuator for a motor vehicle internal combustion engine has the valve movement driven by a control rod (66) colinear to the valve stem (62). The rod and stem are separated by a fluid cylinder (68) of variable volume which is constantly filled with liquid. The cylinder has liquid filling and emptying connections.
