The system has a cooling circuit with an outlet line connecting the engine and radiator, at least one thermostat in this outlet line and at least one heat exchanger in a further outlet line and/or the first outlet line for supplying heating or cooling power to a second cooling circuit with a gearbox and/or retarder and divided into at least two sub-circuits that can be used together or separately as required. The system has a first cooling circuit with an outlet line (20) connecting the engine (3) and radiator (6), at least one thermostat (11) in this outlet line and at least one heat exchanger (4,5) in a further outlet line (25) and/or the first outlet line for supplying heating or cooling power to a second cooling circuit with a gearbox (2) and/or retarder (1). The second cooling circuit is divided into at least two sub-circuits that can be used together or separately as required, e.g. for retarder operation or traction and engine braking operation of the gearbox.
