To produce a water-resistant and biologically degradable material, a flat web is formed of at least two layers, with a cushion layer (3) of air laid cellulose fibers partially fused into an absorbent web (4) between high pressure calender rollers (1, 2). A thermoplastic and water-resistant BIOFLEX film (5, 5') is laid on at least one side of the web material. Heat is applied to the laid film, at its melting temperature, to bond it to the web for stiffening and resistance to saturation and/or brittleness, while being shaped by deep drawing.
