In a gas analysis instrument, a surplus reference branch (11) pipe with throttle (12) discharging to the analytic system (9) gas outlet pipe (10). The gas analysis assembly (1) has a first inlet (7) for the sample gas and a second inlet (8) for a reference gas, together feeding the analytical system and discharging through an outlet. The reference gas feed (8) has a branch with a throttle for excess gas. A gas flow throttle (13) is between the branch and the analytic section. The gas pressure in the gas discharge tube, the gas pressure at the end of the throttle section, and the sample gas pressure after the throttle are all the same.
