The device has each of two switches (T3,T4) of a full bridge circuit not lying on a common bridge diagonal connected together with a d.c. storage choke (L1,L2) and a diode (D1,D2). The switches are each connected to one pole of the input voltage source and via the blocking diodes to the other pole. The choke has two windings that are inductively strongly and capacitively weakly coupled and arranged in different bridge diagonals (BD1,BD2). AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a method of operating an inventive device.
