PURPOSE: An apparatus for measuring a gap between an air knife nozzle and a steel sheet is provided to maintain the plating layer of the steel sheet constant by accurately measuring the gap between the air knife nozzle and the steel sheet. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a housing(7) arranged on an air knife(1) in such a manner that the housing is movable in horizontal and vertical directions; and a sensing unit(21) mounted at an end of the housing, and which moves in horizontal and vertical directions in accordance with the movement of the housing so as to measure the gap between the surface of the strip and the housing. The gap between the strip and the air knife is measured by the expression of D=d-D offset, wherein D is the gap between the strip and the air knife nozzle, d is the gap between the sensing unit and the strip, and D offset is the gap between the air knife nozzle and the sensing unit.
