PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a stress concentrated section of a structural member using an optical fiber sensor, which can accurately detects the stress concentrated section taking place in the structural member with a high resolution of distance and in a narrow range. SOLUTION: In the method, an optical fiber sensor 1 is fixed on a member 3, and a strain measuring device 2 is connected to one end of the fixed optical fiber sensor 1, and the strain measuring device 2 emits light pulses to enter the end of optical fiber sensor 1, and the entering light pulse is affected so as to be changed the frequency spectrum band of the Brillouin backward scattering light that is an optical characteristic change of scattering light at the stress concentrated section, for example, taking place in a section 13 of the optical fiber sensor 1 fixed on the member 3, and the returning scattering light affected in the change of spectrum is received by the strain measuring device 2, and the stress concentrated section is detected based on the change of spectrum and the return time of the scattering light.
