PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing maleic anhydride, by which the development of clogs can be prevented in an azeotropic dehydration process. SOLUTION: This method for producing the maleic anhydride, containing a process for azeotropically distilling a crude maleic acid-containing aqueous solution to dehydrate the aqueous solution, is characterized by performing an aldehyde content-adjusting process for adjusting the content of formaldehyde in the crude maleic acid-containing aqueous solution to a range of 0.01 to 1,000 mass ppm and then carrying out a process for azeotropically distilling the treated crude maleic acid-containing aqueous solution to dehydrate the aqueous solution. Thus, the method for producing the maleic anhydride is provided, by which a plant for producing the maleic anhydride can continuously be operated for a long period without causing the corrosion of devices and the like and further without developing clogs.
