PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quantifying lanthanide ions which comprises the steps of measuring absorbance by ion chromatography using post column method and providing an ion chromatograph with less noise components. SOLUTION: The quantifying method of the present invention comprises the steps of mixing lanthanide ions fractioned by an ion chromatography separation column (1) with a color developer (3), allowing the mixture to pass through a flow path (6) having an inner diameter of 0.05 to 0.5 mm and a length (L) of 100 to 500 cm, and measuring absorbance of the ions. An ion chromatography apparatus comprises a separation column (1), a mixing chamber (2) disposed at an outlet side of the column for adding the color developer (3) to the eluant flow, and an absorbance meter (4), wherein the mixing chamber and the absorbance meter are connected to each other via the flow path (6) having an inner diameter of 0.05 to 0.5 mm and a length (L) of 100 to 500 cm. This apparatus is used for quantifying lanthanide ions, for example cerium (III) ions, by this quantifying method.
