PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toxic material detecting method capable of quickly detecting a toxic material in the environment with high sensitivity and to provide a water quality inspection device and toxic material detecting method capable of also easily quantitatively evaluating a chronically toxic material with high sensitivity. SOLUTION: This water quality inspection device and method comprises detecting the inclusion of the toxic material in a test water by use of the degree of bioactivity of nematode as an index.
