PURPOSE: A camera system for monitoring the rear part of a vehicle is provided to improve convenience and safety by outputting a video signal to a monitor and automatically changing the mode of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A camera system for monitoring the rear part of a vehicle comprises a camera(1) picking up the image of the rear part of a vehicle, a vehicle speed sensor(3) outputting a vehicle speed, a gear input sensor(5) outputting a signal sensed depending on the input of a back-up gear, a control unit(7) outputting a specific control signal for the operation of the monitor, and a camera monitor(9) selectively operated in a television output mode or a camera output mode depending on the output signal of the control unit.
