PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating an intumescent fireproof coating material capable of efficiently providing a flat finish face. SOLUTION: The coating method forms a layer to be coated so that a recess part of a coating material layer has the thickness of a projection part thereof or more after forming the coating material layer unevenly, and smoothly polishes the layer to be coated after drying and hardening the layer to be coated. In the method, the coating material layer is formed with the intumescent fireproof coating material, and the Taber's abrasion loss of the layer to be coated is 0.1-5.0 g. Furthermore, when the carbonizing temperature of the coating material layer is compared with that of the layer to be coated, the layer to be coated is carbonized at the lower temperature.
