PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a filter element of a filter in which impurities deposited on the filter element are cleaned away by reverse-current cleaning, wherein the entire surface of the filter element is uniformly cleaned. SOLUTION: Compressed air is supplied to a vacuum generator using Verneuil's theorem, and a mixed fluid of the compressed air with a coolant liquid remaining in a pipe and the like is made to bump against the inner wall of the filter element, whereby impurities deposited on the outer wall of the filter element are stripped off. By further supplying compressed air, a mixed fluid of a clean coolant liquid suctioned from a clean tank by the vacuum generator is made to bump against the inner wall of the filter element, and thereby impurities deposited on the outer wall of the filter element are stripped off to clean the filter element.
