PURPOSE: A method of solving gray scale instability of a liquid crystal display using a surface geometrical grating and a liquid crystal display to which the method is applied are provided to induce a multi-domain in TN mode without adding a complicated process so as to solve the gray scale instability. CONSTITUTION: To induce a multi-domain of a TN cell of a liquid crystal display using distortion of equal potential plane in liquid crystal according to surface geometrical grating, a value obtained by scaling an average voltage applied to a unit thickness of the liquid crystal to a voltage applied to a unit thickness of the surface geometrical grating is proposed as a standard for selecting surface geometrical grating and liquid crystal material.
