PURPOSE: Provided is Pseudomonas stutzeri bacteria decomposing wide spectrum of hydrocarbons including o-xylene and their mixtures so as to be used as a biological cleaner for the polluted environments by hydrocarbons. The cleaning method saves time or cost and exhibits excellent cleaning effect as well. CONSTITUTION: The method of obtaining Pseudomonas stutzeri comprises; taking soil samples which are polluted by various hydrocarbons and cultivating them in an MSM medium containing o-xylene for carbon and energy source; and selecting the strain which has the strongest decomposing power of o-xylene and identifying it as Pseudomonas stutzeri, SEoX-1(KCCM-10285). The bacteria decomposes each components of the hydrocarbon mixtures including o-xylene, benzene, toluene, methyl xylene and pico xylene.
